Background

Melanie Kalmar joined Dow in 1987, rising through various IT leadership roles. She assumed the CIO position in 2016. Recognizing her valuable contributions, she was further appointed as Corporate Vice President, Chief Information Officer, and Chief Digital Officer in 2019. In this expanded role, Kalmar is tasked with driving Dow’s strategy for IT and digital capabilities.

Kalmar has successfully driven major technology initiatives of increasing complexity at Dow over the last twenty years, including the launch of the Artificial Intelligence Competency Center to further democratize AI adoption throughout the organization.

“From my vantage point, [AI] is the most exciting [trend]. The possibilities that it can bring to a company such as mine are huge. When you look across all of our manufacturing sites, we create around 20 billion data sets per day. Our ability to do more than just process automation or reliability improvements with that data is what is on our radar."
