Introducing Codeium Live: Free, Forever Up-to-Date In-Browser Chat

Hundreds of thousands of developers have been using Codeium's Chat to ask questions and generate code within their own codebase. Today, we introduce Codeium Live, Codeium's new platform to index and chat with external libraries all from within your browser.
Chatting about Code
In the past few years, tools like ChatGPT have become commonplace among developers who want to harness AI to speed up their work. While these are undoubtedly helpful, there are a few drawbacks that hold this technology from its true potential:
- Out-of-date knowledge: GPT3.5 Turbo was trained with information up til January 2022—back when PyTorch was on version 1.10.0 instead of 2.1.0, LangChain wasn't even released, and Next.JS didn't have an app router. All the newest, best technology is constantly getting updates, and even as newer GPTs come out, they always quickly fall behind the capabilities and best practices of the present.
- Need for examples: Even as a human with years of experience, it's really easy to mix up the syntax and usage of various libraries. You can try to avoid this problem while using ChatGPT by providing usage examples, and that tends to perform quite well—but finding these yourself can be a laborious process which adds a lot of overhead to each conversation you have.
- Repeated Prompting: As a developer, you usually have a fairly static tech stack and need to chat about the same few libraries every day. Nonetheless, every time you spin up ChatGPT and start a new conversation, you have to tell it to answer with code snippets relevant to TailwindCSS or written in Python, and then go on about how you'd like to output code only if it's somewhat confident in its answer, or even tell it to take a deep breath before writing the code.
Codeium Live
Codeium Live now lets you seamlessly chat with the most up-to-date version of your tech stack, more efficiently and accurately than any other tool. Using Codeium's proprietary context-finding algorithms, Codeium Live possesses a deep understanding of the library's up-to-date code and has automatic example finding to significantly enhance its results. And the best part is, just like Codeium in your IDE: it's free, forever.
Codeium Live vs ChatGPT: Head-to-Head
Let's take a quick look at some examples of where Codeium Live outperforms ChatGPT:
First, lets try asking about LangChain, a very popular LLM agent library that was released in October 2022:

Similar results ensue if you query about the popular 3D framework, Thretle:

But it's not just newer libraries that see benefits, even asking questions about PyTorch has singificantly enhanced quality when chatting with Codeium Live:

The Future of AI Code Chat
Codeium Live is currently open-beta and only has support for a selected handful of libraries. Over the next few months, you can expect to see vastly more libraries, a variety of new features, and improved performance as we constantly work on furthering Codeium Live's capabilities. We'd love to hear what you'd like to see on our Discord and stay tuned for announcements on our Twitter.
As always, don't just take our word for anything. Try it out today:
