Background

Jan Brecht has been serving as the CIO of Mercedes-Benz since 2015, where he oversees Information Technology across all of the group’s divisions and brands globally. Prior to his role at Mercedes-Benz, Brecht served as CIO & Head of Global Supply Chain at the Adidas Group. He also held various IT leadership positions at Daimler, ultimately reaching the role of CIO Americas from 2007 to 2009.

Brecht advocates for organizations to become more data-focused. At Mercedes-Benz, he has positioned Generative AI at the center of operations, including through initiatives that increase the efficiency of writing code (e.g. via GitHub CoPilot), simplify repetitive tasks for Service Operations, and supporting teams in creating text and reports (e.g. legal)

“With digitization and the increasing use of powerful AI systems, job profiles are changing in production and administration. AI is intended to improve and facilitate the day-to-day work of employees. New digital tools, for example, further enable production employees to optimize processes and quality management in the long term. The first interim results in MO360 are very promising, especially since we see it’s not only accepted by the IT experts, but also by the masters on the shop floor."
